Polyglutamic Acid – The new protagonist in skin care

Despite being known and studied for decades, polyglutamic acid became a trend last year and is the new trend in skin care.

It is capable of forming a moisturizing film on the surface of the skin, absorb until 4000 times its weight in water and increase the synthesis of natural hydration factors, making it the newest active ingredient for hydration, skin firmness and elasticity.

In nature, polyglutamic acid is essential for the survival of jellyfish, as it is he who adjusts the pressure and volume of the mesoglea, gelatinous upper part of the animal.

It is also produced by Bacillus subtilis and is present in Natto, traditional oriental food obtained by fermenting soybeans.

Just like hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid has different molecular weights. High molecular weight polyglutamic acid forms a non-occlusive moisturizing film on the skin and reinforces the skin barrier.

Additionally, it has thickening properties and can be used as a natural rheology modifier polymer in serums, lip tints and gels.

High polyglutamic acids, low and very low molecular weight act on the stratum corneum, epidermis and dermis, respectively.

They are capable of strengthening the skin barrier through the synthesis of proteins important for the formation of the skin barrier, stimulate the synthesis of natural skin hydration factors and reduce the degradation of hyaluronic acid.

Os polyglutamic acids can also be used in association with hyaluronic acid to promote even more hydration, elasticity and prolong these effects on the skin.

Tovani Benzaquen has the Hyafactor line™-PGA, line of polyglutamic acids stabilized in their salt form (Sodium Polyglutamate), with different molecular weights, obtained by fermentation, biodegradable and COSMOS certified.
